Fremont Wonderopolis is a six-week program kicking off June 20, 2011, that offers local families the chance to explore their city by participating in a series of challenges tied to local wonders. Designed and executed by the National Center for Family Literacy, the worldwide leader in family literacy, the program helps Fremont families close the problematic summer learning gap in a fun and free way.
Created by the National Center for Family Literacy (NCFL), Wonderopolis® is a place where parents seek and nurture a brighter world for their children through the power of discovery, creativity, learning and imagination.
With a mission of making learning a fun, everyday family activity, Wonderopolis launched in October 2010. Months of research showed parents were eager for resources that reflected learning in the context of daily life and real-world knowledge. With this information, a core content strategy evolved into a Wonder of the Day® — a curious question derived to make learning fun and practical.
The National Center for Family Literacy, founded in 1989 and based in Louisville, Ky., is the worldwide leader in family literacy. More than 1 million families have made positive educational and economic gains as a result of NCFL’s work, which includes training more than 150,000 teachers and thousands of volunteers.
